GlobalAgRisk works to advance both the conceptual and technical development of innovations in risk management and has helped shape the global community’s vision of the links between catastrophic weather events, agricultural risk management, financial markets, and rural economic development. The conceptual work began in the 1990s. Applications started in 1996 when Jerry Skees began consulting with the World Bank. That work has significantly influenced the World Bank agenda in agricultural insurance. Our ideas are vetted in academic journals and then tested with real world applications. GlobalAgRisk maintains an active educational outreach program as part of its mission. Recent endeavors include developing a primer on index insurance for USAID, writing and proctoring a course on market-based risk management for the World Bank Institute, and leading a study tour of agricultural insurance in India for Mongolian and Vietnamese professionals. Educational efforts are always a key component of our product design and pilot implementation processes, ensuring that stakeholders understand the new products and their concerns are addressed.

GlobalAgRisk Logo GlobalAgRisk is committed to improving the rural poor's access to financial services and other markets with innovative approaches to transferring natural disaster risk.
